Ten years ago, Elco thought about what role it could play in reducing the effects
of global warming. In 1998, the very first prototype of our ECM motor was presented.
Using its own protected intellectual property, Elco developed the ECM, which is
a highly efficient alternative to the traditional shaded pole motors which are currently
the standard in commercial refrigeration. The ECM enables higher efficiency than
usual shaded pole motors due to the high level of protection against water and dust
that is granted by motor’s IP65 solution.
Despite a higher unit price, extensive customer trials have now been completed and
these clearly demonstrated a payback period that can be as short as seven months,
significant energy savings and a significant impact on customers’ carbon footprints.
Based on studies carried out by Elco, the Company believe a typical supermarket
group might save an annual 30 tons of CO2 per store.
The motor is the perfect alternative to the traditional shaded pole motors normally
used and adopted in all the supermarket cabinets and in most of the commercial refrigeration
applications due to a significant flexibility and a very high level of protection.
The wide range of shaded pole motors, coupled with a range of accessories in plastic,
grants the best performance for any kind of application and market. The products
are VDE or UL/CSA approved and are manufactured close to our customers in our factories
in Italy, China, Brazil and, soon, Bulgaria. Our products are also available ready
for shipment in the UK, Spain, Russia, the UAE, Singapore, Australia and Canada.
The technology is adopted for three lines of products:
N series: a standard for supermarket cabinets, water coolers, can/bottle coolers.
CN series: a standard for small condensing units and light evaporators.
M58: a suitable solution for ice cream coolers.
PSC motor technology allows better efficiency than the traditional shaded pole motor
at an affordable cost. Elco uses its long experience in PSC motors for large fans
and blowers to smaller axial fans for refrigeration applications. Single rotation
models come standard with on-board capacitors. The BTM series is an alternative
to the N series and uses the same accessory range. The PSC is used within refrigeration
applications acting as a compromise between cost and efficiency between the shaded
pole motor and the ECM, along with the ability to demonstrate the widest power range
out of all three products. In the year to 31 December 2006, the Company manufactured
about 625,000 PSC motors.
HVAC blowers and fans are internally designed and tuned by experienced airflow engineers
in strict cooperation with the motor design team. Elco has a range of motors which
are used to power air treatment applications such as condensing units, fan coils,
air conditioning and cassettes.
DD Series - Widely used in air conditioning and air handling units. A complete range
of DDE is available from 7/7 to 12/12. Mounting feet, bolts and rubber vibration
dampers are all included.
CF Fans - Widely used in industrial refrigeration and air moving. The CFR series
comes with metal finger guard. Also available is the ultra-efficient and whisper-quiet
thermoplastic fan blade model.

and Technology Department in 1992. In 2002 it obtained self-operation export and
