CFC-free refrigerants

The refrigerant R-22, used in many air conditioners at present, contains CFCs-ozone-depleting substances. Within the next few years, use of CFCs in new products is to be abolished in accordance with international agreements. Air Frost has already adopted CFC-free new refrigerants R-410a to prevent ozone-layer depletion by CFCs.

Harmful effects caused by CFCs

Chlorine contained in CFC goes up into ozone layer where it causes a photo-reaction with ozone and destroys it. This is a chain reaction, which means a small amount of CFC can destroy a large amount of ozone. If we damage the ozone layer, the direct radiation of UV rays can cause skin cancer cataracts. Also, increase in UV rays may denaturalize plant genes that can lead to the destruction of the eco system.

Characteristics of R410a

• Do not contain harmful chlorine so they do not damage our environment
• Non toxic and non-flammable, which means safe to handle
• As the boiling point is almost the same as conventional Freon (R22), it is easy to handle
• You can get almost the same performance in energy efficiency
